KRT Joins the First Annual Great Cheese Dip War

Generations Bank held the First Annual Great Cheese Dip War on September 20, 2023, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to celebrate all things cheese. Participating individuals, companies, and organizations showed off their cheese dip recipes and competed for the title of best cheese dip.

Kings River Title isn’t one to miss out on a historic — and delicious — event such as a cheese dip war. We joined the festivities and showcased our recipe. While the KRT team may not have won the competition, it was a wonderful day for networking with other individuals and organizations. We all had so much fun and loved being part of this event!

Now that the best cheese dip recipe in Arkansas has been crowned for 2023, who will reign in next year’s Cheese Dip War? To satiate our cravings, here’s a little history about why there is a cheese dip war in the first place.

The Past of Cheese Dip

According to the Encyclopedia of Arkansas, Blackie Donnely and his wife invented cheese dip when they opened their restaurant, Mexico Chiquito, in North Hot Springs, Arkansas, in 1935.

While there is no concrete evidence that the family was the first to invent this type of dip, their restaurant’s recipe predates Rotel in the States by at least 10 years. Mexico Chiquito is still a prominent restaurant around Arkansas and is part of the Arkansas Cheese Dip Trail.

Take a drive along the cheese dip trail in Arkansas and stop by Mexico Chiquito in Little Rock before visiting stops like Buffalo Grill Riverdale, Casa Manana Rock, Cheers in the Heights, and Dizzy’s Gypsy Bistro.
